Last week(Mar 5-11) was the 11th annual Black Church
Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS, sponsored by
New York-based The Balm In Gilead, and included event
participation at about a dozen Dallas-area churches in
support of the effort of awareness and within the church.

The statistics concerning blacks with AIDS appear grim:
- The number of African-Americans with AIDS doubled
from 1993 to 1998.
- AIDS is the No. 1 cause of death for blacks ages 25
to 44.
- In Dallas, blacks accounted for 37 percent of new AIDS
cases last year, though blacks make up roughly 25 percent
of the city's population. (DMN)
